The construction of the Guangzhou campus of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in Nansha district has been accelerated as the electricity lines at the construction site have finished switching on July 17, nearly 20 days earlier than scheduled.
The switching of the electricity lines has eliminated potential safety hazards for the further construction of the campus.
As an independent legal entity, HKUST (Guangzhou) is expected to deepen cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in higher education and scientific innovation, offering talent support for the high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area.
HKUST (Guangzhou) started its enrollment in 2019 and the first batch of its students studied in Hong Kong.
Enrollment efforts in the first six years will mainly focus on attracting master's and PhD students in major interdisciplinary areas like data science, robotics and automated systems, smart manufacturing, as well as artificial intelligence.
