Construction on the Shenzhen-Jiangmen railway line, which is a part of the Shenzhen-Maoming railway line, started on July 2 in Guangzhou's Nansha district.
The Shenzhen-Jiangmen railway line spans 116.12 kilometers and connects Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, as well as Jiangmen in Guangdong province. A total of seven stations will be set up and the overall investment of the railway will reach 51.3 billion yuan ($7.26 billion).
The section between Binhaiwan Station in Dongguan and Nansha's Wanqingsha, a tunneling project at the estuary of the Pearl River, will be constructed first, while the other sections of the railway line are expected to start construction in September.
The whole section stretches for 13.69 km and the deepest point of the tunnel is 115 meters. At present, it is the deepest underwater channel with the largest water pressure in China. The largest water pressure point in the shielding of the channel is also the same as the current world largest one in Turkey.
It is expected that the new railway line will be vital to the socio-economic development of Nansha, which is the suburban center of Guangzhou, as well as to the establishment of a half-hour-long transport circle centering around Nansha.
