The industrial base for precision medicine in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in Nansha officially started its construction on June 30.
Located in Nansha's Wanqingsha town, the project has an overall investment of 50 billion yuan ($7.07 billion) and is expected to form an industrial ecosystem integrating scientific research, manufacturing, medicine, and rehabilitation.
The research institute on precision medicine to be located in the industrial base will be led by Fudan University, which has clustered national leading talent groups in the area. The institute will be equipped with P3 laboratories. It will be built into a center for the gathering and innovation of life sciences talents from around the world.
The big data center on precision medicine will establish a database to boost industrial development and offer support through its data analysis ability in areas spanning clinical decisions and the research and development of new medicines.
The industrial base will also provide talent apartments with high-quality facilities and first-class activities to attract talents, as well as facilitate their communication.
An international hospital affiliated to the research institute has also been planned in the area. Covering an area of 150 mu (10 hectares) and a building area of 200,000 square meters, the hospital will be able to provide 500 patient beds.
In addition, an organ medical center that is at a world-leading level will be built in the area, allowing people to use 3D printing technology to grow their own organs with their own cells for whole recovery.
