Bald cypress trees paint Guangzhou in warm hues
As winter arrives in Guangzhou, the bald cypress trees have quietly started their seasonal change, coating the city in warm shades of golden yellow, orange-red, and deep russet — like a caramel palette. These trees are now at their peak viewing time across various parks, drawing in both locals and tourists.

Yunxi Botanical Garden, nestled at the foot of Baiyun Mountain, is one of the most popular spots to observe this natural display. Between December and mid-January, the tree canopies gradually turn to shades of rusty red and bronze. In the sunlight, the cypress groves seem to glow softly, creating a peaceful yet lively scene. The garden features two prime viewing locations: the winding Huanxi Boardwalk, offering an immersive walk amid the colorful trees, and Yunqiao Bridge, which provides a sweeping view to appreciate the layered beauty of the foliage.
Other recommended sites to visit include Yunluo Botanical Garden near Jihu Lake, Huangpodong Reservoir in Baiyun Mountain, Maofeng Mountain Forest Park, and Baiyun Lake. The reflection of the vibrant trees in the water, combined with the surrounding scenery, creates picturesque "forest-themed" backdrops perfect for photography.
In the coming weeks, the colors are likely to become even more vivid. Visitors are advised to plan their trips accordingly to maximize their viewing experience.
