Updated : December 5, 2025

On Dec 1, a batch of Chilean cherries weighing 2.4 metric tons arrived through Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and quickly went on sale at the Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market.

Since November, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Port has imported over 1,040 tons of cherries, with a total value exceeding 90 million yuan, reflecting year-on-year increases of about 44.4 percent and 10.7 percent, respectively. This indicates a simultaneous rise in both volume and price. Currently, the first batch of air-shipped cherries has hit the market, with prices on online platforms averaging around 130 yuan ($18.38) per kilogram.

As a major fruit distribution hub in South China, the Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market sources specialty fruits from many countries around the world. To help consumers make informed choices, the report offers eight practical tips, such as checking box labels, observing fruit color and shine, inspecting stem freshness, and comparing specifications and grades. These tips are all designed to help residents select fresh, high-quality cherries.

With the continued smooth operation of the import supply chain, cherry prices are expected to gradually decrease by mid-to-late December, providing residents with more affordable options.
