Baiyun athlete helps Guangdong win men's water polo gold at National Games
On Oct 27, in the men's water polo final of the 15th National Games, the Guangdong team, featuring athlete Xie Zekai who was cultivated, selected and supported by Guangzhou's Baiyun district, defeated the Shanghai team 16:9 to defend their title.

Wearing jersey No 6 for Guangdong, Xie Zekai and his teammates led their campaign from the group stages to the final. They opened with a 21:7 win over Sichuan, then secured consecutive dominant victories of 20:9 and 35:4, defeated Hunan 13:7 in the semifinals, and finally faced their longtime rivals, Shanghai, in the championship match.
Xie Zekai has often represented Guangdong and China in various domestic and international competitions, earning notable achievements. His awards include a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, a championship at the Asian Championships, and a gold medal at the last National Games.
For this edition of the National Games and the National Games for Persons with Disabilities, Baiyun district has a record-breaking team of 24 athletes competing in 11 sports. More successes are expected from these athletes.
