Over 420,000 sq-m public rooftops to become green power stations
Recently, the Baiyun district public rooftop distributed photovoltaic project (Phase I) was won by Guangzhou Yundong New Energy, a subsidiary of Baiyun Financial Group.
The project will activate the unused rooftop spaces of public buildings, including administrative offices, schools, and hospitals, across 24 streets and towns in the district, covering a total area of 423,800 square meters. The total investment is estimated at around 400 million yuan ($56.04 million), with a designed installed capacity of 63.57 megawatts.
The project follows the "self-generation for self-use, surplus electricity fed into the grid" model, with an operational period of 20 years, including a construction phase of two to three years. Total power generation during the operational period is estimated to be about 1.42 billion kilowatt-hours. This will not only lower electricity costs for public institutions but also result in a reduction of roughly 700,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, providing ecological benefits comparable to planting 1.5 million trees.
This initiative not only improves the utilization of State-owned assets and promotes urban green and low-carbon development but also stimulates the growth of the new energy industry chain. It aligns with emerging industries in Baiyun district, such as hydrogen energy and the low-altitude economy, contributing to the creation of a modern energy system.
In the future, Baiyun district will continue to expand green energy businesses, including energy storage and microgrids, to contribute to the achievement of the dual carbon goals.
