Maofeng Mountain Red Leaf Festival to begin

Updated : September 22, 2025

The sixth Red Leaf Viewing Season at Maofeng Mountain will open under the theme "Red Leaves Charm the Bay Area" on Sept 25.

The upcoming event integrates the theme of "Green National Games, Low-Carbon Living" with Guangzhou's captivating early autumn scenery, featuring the vibrant red maple leaves. Over 2,000 red maple trees, which are typically out of season, have reached their peak color, creating a breathtaking landscape. Tianhu Lake mirrors the fiery hues of the maple forest, while Lotus Peak showcases a striking "half green, half red" panorama, offering a stunning visual spectacle. The most optimal viewing period for this natural display is anticipated during the National Day holiday.

The event blends rich cultural traditions with engaging sports activities, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere. Attendees can enjoy captivating lion dance performances, display their skills in martial arts demonstrations, and experience the art of poetry recitations. The event also features exhibitions highlighting local agricultural products and innovative cultural crafts. In anticipation of the upcoming 15th National Games in November 2025, the festival integrates a variety of "sports + tourism' experiences. Participants can partake in maple harvest games, practice tai chi amidst the colorful red maples, enjoy scenic hiking check-ins, and engage in fun parent-child challenges. These activities provide a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in physical wellness and leisure pursuits while appreciating the stunning natural landscape of red maples.

Maofeng Mountain is celebrated for its lush natural scenery, boasting 95 percent forest coverage and abundant negative oxygen ion concentrations that contribute to its reputation as Guangzhou's "green treasure chest". During the red leaf season, the mountain transforms into a hub of outdoor activities, hosting a variety of engaging events such as hiking races, bike motocross competitions, and martial arts tournaments. These activities not only offer visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the breathtaking autumnal landscape but also provide a dynamic platform for experiencing the cultural and recreational richness of the Greater Bay Area.

To reach the location, take Metro Line 14 or buses to Taihe Station, then transfer to the dedicated shuttle lines, or drive directly to No 168 Toubei Maofeng Road.
