On Aug 29, the Guangzhou power supply bureau of Guangdong Power Grid Company purchased a prime industrial land plot in Renhe town, Baiyun district, within the Guangzhou Air Economy Zone, for 121 million yuan ($16.94 million). The land, spanning 51,877 square meters, is designated for developing new energy and energy storage industries.

The project will set up the Guangdong Power Grid Clean and Low-Carbon Electric Power Technology Innovation Research and Development Base. It will prioritize research in new electrical materials, innovative energy storage solutions, and marine energy. The goal is to develop a comprehensive R&D platform that covers concept validation, technological development, testing, inspection, and operational verification.

The base is aimed at enabling breakthroughs in essential technologies for new power systems, developing key equipment, promoting the transformation of achievements, and progressing major energy projects, all contributing to the nation's dual carbon objectives.

In recent years, Baiyun district has seen swift growth in the new energy and innovative energy storage sectors. Its new-type energy storage industry has now surpassed 20 billion yuan in scale, and the output value of the new energy and intelligent connected vehicle industries has exceeded 50 billion yuan.

The creation of the National New Energy Storage Innovation Center, combined with the influx of top enterprises and research institutions, is quickly forming an industrial cluster. This project will boost regional industrial concentration and help Baiyun develop a trillion-yuan new energy industrial cluster.
