Yellow River softshell turtles harvested in Guangzhou aquaculture base
An aquaculture base in Xinlou village, Jianggao town, Baiyun district, Guangzhou, has celebrated a bountiful harvest, with over 20,000 kilograms of Yellow River softshell turtles collectively brought out of the ponds.
These softshell turtles were bred by Guangzhou Aunt Aquaculture Company, which introduced the hatchlings and scientifically cultivated them. Fed with specialized imported fish meal, the softshell turtles are lively and robust, with each weighing an average of 2 to 2.5 kg.

After being harvested, the softshell turtles were immediately rinsed, weighed, packaged, and transported to aquatic markets in the Guangzhou-Foshan area for nationwide distribution. The company's base currently operates 28 standardized fish ponds, focusing on the intensive cultivation of softshell turtles and soft-shelled softshell turtles. The total output this year is expected to exceed 200 metric tons, representing significant growth compared to last year.
Under the guidance of the Baiyun Supply and Marketing Cooperative, the company has also expanded its industrial chain by developing processed products, such as self-heating turtle soup and lingzhi turtle jelly, which have been well received in the market.
As a high-quality local species, the Yellow River softshell turtle is not only nutritious but also possesses medicinal and dietary therapeutic value. It is gradually becoming a distinctive agricultural highlight in Baiyun.
