Sports brands expand globally from GBA
The Greater Bay Area Sports Brand Overseas Expansion and Cross-Border Trade Exchange was held on Aug 20 in the Longxue Comprehensive Bonded Zone of Guangzhou's Nansha district. The event focused on utilizing policy benefits and building cross-border channels to promote the internationalization of the Greater Bay Area's sports industry.
Nansha, capitalizing on the strategic advantage of its "Five-Port Linkage", has developed the largest comprehensive port area in South China, with throughput exceeding 20 million TEUs in 2024 and over 170 international trade routes.
By combining policies of the Nansha Free Trade Zone and the Comprehensive Bonded Zone, along with an efficient multimodal transportation system, the costs of importing and exporting sports goods have been significantly reduced, customs clearance efficiency has improved, and a "policy + channel + service" ecosystem has been established to support international expansion.
Academics and industry leaders also discussed practical strategies at the exchange, as scholars suggested that the Greater Bay Area could jointly establish a global sports industry base and proposed a three-step approach for entering the African market. Leading enterprises shared comprehensive solutions for digital supply chains and cross-border payments, and on-site companies conducted field inspections of the bonded zone's facilities, resulting in several cooperation agreements.
With the "One Game, Three Locations" model for the 15th National Games and improvements to the cross-border ecosystem, Nansha is becoming a central hub for the international expansion of sports brands in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, helping integrate China's sports industry into the global value chain.
