Over 500 lion dancers shine at Baiyun selection contest

The "9th Guangzhou Youth Lion Dance Competition Selection" was recently held at Sky Square in Baiyun district.

Thirty-eight teams, comprising over 500 young performers, took to the stage, with lively drumbeats and agile lion dances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Baiyun's lion dance traditions. Through their skilled performances, they ensured the continuity of traditional culture.

Guangzhou Feiyang Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe and Fenggang Yongsheng Sports Association of Shafeng Community, Jinsha subdistrict, won the "Supreme Gold Award" in the single-lion event, while Pingsha Primary School of Baiyun district and Litongqing Hall Lion Dance Team of Aigang village in Baiyun district clinched the "Supreme Gold Award" in the group-lion event. These four teams will represent Baiyun in the city-wide finals.

The selection competition was abuzz with activity as the audience cheered continuously in the packed-to-capacity venue. A seven-hour online live broadcast also attracted nearly 100,000 viewers.

Lion dances have a long history in Baiyun, and the local government places great emphasis on their preservation and development.

Baiyun will continue to promote the innovation and inheritance of lion dance culture, making it a shining symbol that showcases the charm of Baiyun and promotes Chinese culture.
