Commercial complex in Guangzhou undergoes major upgrade

Updated : May 28, 2025

On May 21, Guangzhou Baiyun No 5 Commercial Development was established, marking the beginning of a comprehensive transformation and upgrade phase for the Baiyun No 5 Apron Commercial Complex.

The complex was originally the old terminal building of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. After the airport relocated in 2004, the building was renovated and began trial operations in 2010, opening in September 2011. It was the first commercial complex in China to be transformed from an airport terminal building.

The upgrade is led by Guangdong Airport Authority's Airside Industry Development, aiming to transform the complex into a "24/7 leisure and social destination" from various aspects.

The project is now renamed as Baiyun No 5 T5 MALL, with a focus on brand renewal, scene reconstruction, and customer segmentation. It will target quality families, office clients, and tourists looking for unique experiences in the future.

In terms of hardware upgrades, renowned domestic and international design companies have been invited to participate in the redesign of the exterior, interior, and optimization of the outdoor plaza. The transformation of the exterior facade has already begun. Additionally, a digital management system will be implemented to enhance consumer experiences.

Regarding business adjustments, brand repositioning and zone restructuring will occur simultaneously, emphasizing "youthfulness" and "experiential appeal". The ground floor will emphasize trendy vitality, the second floor will focus on all-age entertainment spaces, and the third floor will create a new social hub for gatherings. The outdoor plaza will also introduce immersive entertainment and sports experiences to meet the lifestyle demands of young people.
