Largest supermoon of year illuminates night sky
The world recently witnessed the largest supermoon of the year. At precisely 19:26 on Oct 17, the moon reached its full phase, coinciding closely with its perigee, the point in its orbit where it is nearest to Earth. This rare alignment, occurring just 11 hours apart, resulted in a supermoon that appeared larger and brighter than usual.
Astronomists highlighted that this event is the closest convergence of a full moon and perigee this year, making it the largest supermoon of 2024.
In Guangzhou, several prime locations offer stunning views of this astronomical wonder. Baiyun Mountain, a popular spot for moon gazing, provides an elevated vantage point to admire the supermoon against the backdrop of the bustling city. Yuntai Garden offers a picturesque setting with its diverse array of flora, enhancing the moon-watching experience. Maofeng Mountain promises a serene and immersive environment, while Xunfeng Pavilion provides a beautifully illuminated traditional structure for an enchanting view. For a more serene experience, Baiyun Lake offers expansive views and ample space for a leisurely moonlit stroll or a picnic.
