Grape harvest season arrives in Baiyun

Updated : June 17, 2024

Harvest season has begun at multiple grape orchards in Baiyun district in recent days.

At the happy grape garden in Taihe town's Toupo village, the first batch of Black Pearl grapes is attracting many visitors to come pick them. The grapes grow at the foot of Maofeng Mountain, which provides fresh air and fertile soil. Organic fertilizers are used and the area is weeded manually, without the use of pesticides or ripening agents. The grapes are sweet, tender, and highly popular.

Grape production this year is expected to reach around 8,000 kilograms. The vineyards are planted with various grape varieties, with Black Pearl grapes already ripe, and other mid-to-late ripening varieties like Kyoho grapes and Sunshine Rose grapes growing vigorously. Harvest season is expected to start in July and continue until the end of August.

In the Qicai Flower Field of Liaocai village in Zhongluotan town, grapes have also ripened, offering a delightful and flavorful experience. The grape vineyard here covers a total area of 30 mu (2 hectares) and includes popular varieties such as Black Pearl and Sunshine Rose grapes. Sunshine Rose grapes can be picked in July, while the picking season will last until September.

These grape orchards all adopt an ecological planting model, enhancing soil fertility through farmyard manure to improve the grape's taste.
