Guangzhou Gymnasium

Guangzhou Gymnasium is a comprehensive multi-functional sports stadium built by the Guangzhou municipal government. Designed by the world-famous French architect Paul Andreu, the gymnasium started construction in February 1999 and opened on Jun 30, 2001. It won the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize in 2003. Gymnastics competitions and the closing ceremony of the Ninth National Games have been held at the venue.

Guangzhou Gymnasium is located at the foot of Baiyun Mountain in Baiyun district of Guangzhou. The leaf-shaped steel truss structure, transparent roof, flexible seats, comfortable air-conditioning system and multi-functional site resources integrate humanistic architecture, natural landscape and modern design. The wide use of high-tech facilities such as electronic devices, intelligent equipment and digital appliances has endowed the venue with strong modern characteristics.

The gymnasium covers a total area of 240,000 square meters, with a floor space of nearly 100,000 square meters. It is home to world-class sports venues and facilities, including the main stadium, training halls, public activity centers, office buildings, energy centers, parking lots and dining halls.
