Baiyun witnesses strong development in H1 2023

In the first half of this year, Baiyun district achieved several significant benchmarks, local media outlets reported on July 29.  

The district's regional gross domestic product (GDP) reached 129 billion yuan ($18 billion), growing by 8 percent when compared to the previous year, and ranking third in Guangzhou.

Baiyun's six major industries have shown rapid development, including its aviation, modern logistics, and construction industries. The industrial scales of these three sectors have all exceeded 50 billion yuan.

To foster the growth of startups, the district has established five new incubators at the municipal level, with an additional incubation area of 13,000 square meters and a total investment of about 590 million yuan.

In terms of foreign trade, Baiyun's total import and export value for cross-border e-commerce reached 150 million yuan. Furthermore, Baiyun oversaw the operation of 310 China-Europe freight trains in the first half of this year. These trains transported goods totaling $890 million.

The district recorded 880 million yuan in actually utilized foreign capital, marking a 9.9 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Of note, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport's Terminal 3 building has been fully topped off, indicating that the airport's extension project is entering one of its final stages. The airport experienced a 59.5 percent increase in passenger and cargo throughput in the first half of 2023.

Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station has also been fully constructed and is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of this year.
