Updated : June 7, 2023

On June 3, two standard dragon boat teams consisting of 40 women competed alongside two traditional dragon boat teams consisting of 140 men in Yagang village, Baiyun district.

The village has made efforts to encourage every villager to participate in dragon boat sport. As early as 2015, the village formed two women's dragon boat teams, breaking the tradition of women not being able to participate in dragon boat races.

This team later achieved good results in multiple major competitions, which further stimulated enthusiasm among the local people to participate in this sport.

Dragon boat racing is a traditional Chinese sport that involves a team synchronously rowing a long boat. It is an essential part of the Dragon Boat Festival in China, especially in Guangdong province and the other southern regions.

Since its introduction to other countries, it has become widely popular and has even evolved into an international sport that is embraced by people from various cultural backgrounds.
