Updated : May 12, 2023

Tech giant Huawei recently moved things up in the building of its first research and development center in Guangzhou's Baiyun district.

Currently being constructed by China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, the facility's eight R&D buildings have all been topped off, while a hotel is under advanced construction and will be capped off in June, local media outlets reported on May 11.

The center is located in Baiyun's Songzhou Street and it occupies a land area of 119,300 square meters with a floor space of about 305,000 sq m. Its Phase I project is scheduled to be completed in January and to open in September next year.

It will engage in technical fields, such as intelligent vehicles, cloud computing and the internet of things, and aim to accelerate the application of information and communications technology (ICT), in Guangzhou's various industries. After completion, it will accommodate about 5,000 employees.

To ensure the project's completion on schedule, the construction of its supporting road network is also being stepped up.

A series of infrastructure projects, including the Julong Station for Metro Line 12, the Luochongwei Station for Metro Line 13 and Chenxiang Bridge, are now in full swing.
