Guangzhou's Baiyun Lake Water Conservancy Park won the AAPME award of excellence in the Flood and Water Management category, according to the list released by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) on Aug 30.

As an integrated water system regulation and ecological landscape in northern Guangzhou, Baiyun Lake Water Conservancy Park plays an important role in improving the city's northern urban area's climate and environment.

After 12 years of efforts, the project has achieved initial results from overall planning to landscaping. It was rated as a national-level water conservancy scenic area in 2015 while carrying functions such as pollution control, water intake, water delivery, and water storage.

Being one of the 19 water bird ecological corridors in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Baiyun Lake has established a belt-shaped ecological conservation area to provide stable and safe activity areas for water birds.

Baiyun Lake is currently working to enhance its aquatic habitat, increase the variety of wetland plants, and spread awareness of the value of environmental preservation and water conservation.

IFLA, headquartered in Versailles, France, is currently the most influential academic organization in the global landscape field under the guidance of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
