58 companies from Guangdong Province are listed in the Report on China's Unicorn Companies Development released on March 30 at the Global Unicorn Company Conference, a parallel session of the 2025 Zhongguancun Forum Annual Conference.
Among the enterprises, 35 are from Shenzhen and 23 are based in Guangzhou.
Based on a comprehensive index score, Guangdong ranks as one of the top 10 provinces and municipalities in China with the highest popularity of unicorn enterprises, second only to Beijing.
According to the report, these regions boast well-developed industrial chains, high-quality talent resources, and supportive policy environments, providing robust support for the growth of unicorn enterprises.
The report indicates that there are currently 409 unicorn enterprises in China, with a total valuation of approximately USD 1.5068 trillion. China accounts for nearly 30% of the global unicorn enterprises, second only to the United States, with an average valuation of USD 3.684 billion.
In terms of industry distribution, the 409 unicorn enterprises are spread across 12 industries. Among them, artificial intelligence (AI) enterprises have received the highest level of capital attention.
From a quantitative perspective, the top five industries in terms of the number of unicorn enterprises are new consumption and retail, AI, integrated circuits, intelligent equipment, and medicine and healthcare, with 66, 61, 54, 54, and 43 enterprises respectively, accounting for a combined total of 68.0%.
In terms of valuation, unicorn companies in the fields of AI, new consumption and retail, and integrated circuits occupy the top three spots, with total valuations of USD 461.2 billion, USD 203.9 billion, and USD 192.5 billion, respectively.
The average valuations of unicorn companies in the sectors of AI, e-commerce, and new energy smart vehicles are among the top three, standing at USD 7.561 billion, USD 6.185 billion, and USD 5.431 billion, respectively.
