Up close with airplanes at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport

Updated:2025-03-26

A popular plane-spotting spot near Guangzhou Baiyun Airport's southwest corner recently drew aviation enthusiasts to watch aircraft taxi up close.

Visitors wave at taxiing aircraft from the dirt slope.

Aviation fans note that planes may take off and land in different areas depending on wind direction. During southerly winds, planes usually take off and land near the southwestern corner of the airport, close to Hengwu Road (横五路). When northerly winds prevail, aircrafts tend to use the northeastern corner, near Hengwenzhuang (横文庄).

While the spot offers a thrilling experience, visitors should always prioritize safety and follow airport guidelines. Though separated from the runway by three fences, the area has a steep drop, and the outermost fence is weak, posing safety risks. On March 21, 2025, airport staff reinforced the fence to ensure security.

Baiyun Airport welcomes aviation photography but urges visitors to use safer, designated viewing areas and keep a safe distance from airport fences to prevent risks and disruptions.

With clear skies in recent days, many residents gathered by the airport fence to watch airplanes.
