What's it like to experience the thrill of ice and snow sports in spring in southern China with robots and young people speeding down the slopes?
On March 22, the second Bay Area Ice and Snow Sports Tourism and Culture Season was launched at Sunac Land in Guangzhou's Huadu District.
This Ice and Snow Season, running until the end of April, will feature a range of competitions and leisure tourism activities, driving the growth of the ice and snow market in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
A platform for professional skiing competition
During the Season, the first National Youth Indoor Skiing Open—Guangzhou Station will be held. The competition covers all age groups from U8 to U15 and includes alpine skiing giant slalom and snowboard giant slalom. It has already attracted more than 250 participants.
At the launch ceremony, the establishment ceremony of the Guangzhou Ski Team was also held. The Guangzhou Ski Team is organized by the Guangzhou Municipal Sports Bureau. In the future, the Guangzhou Ski Team will participate in high-level domestic and international competitions.
The world's first robots to experience skiing and playing in the snow
At the ceremony, the 'world's first snow-skiing robots' from China’s GBA made a striking debut. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, these robots glided effortlessly through the snow, skiing alongside human athletes on the slopes. This not only provided a new experience for ice and snow sports enthusiasts but also represented a new convergence between cutting-edge technology and the ice and snow industry.
To encourage broader participation, this ice and snow event will offer over 100 free public skiing classes, with four daily sessions tailored to all age groups.
In addition, Guangzhou Sunac Land's Bonski offers special policies and benefits for the general public and college students, providing more people with the opportunity to experience snow sports.
This Ice and Snow Season, through a series of rich and colorful ice and snow competitions and theme activities, aims to inspire the public to take part in ice and snow sports.
Over 100 Southeast Asian international tourist groups visited
In the southern part of China, indoor ski resorts have sparked a strong wave of enthusiasm for ice and snow sports.
In recent years, Huadu District has developed ice and snow sports and the ice and snow economy. Based on facilities in Guangzhou Sunac Land's Bonski, Huadu creates a comprehensive cultural, commercial, and sports complex with ice and snow sports as its characteristic. It continues to enrich and expand the supply of ice and snow products and services.
Notably, the ice and snow sports have emerged as a unique travel attraction for visitors from Southeast Asia. Guangzhou Hot Snow Miracle, located in the core area of the Bay Area, offers a new travel option for Southeast Asian tourists to enjoy four-season snow and skiing without long-distance travel. It has become an important bridge connecting Southeast Asia with the GBA's ice and snow cultural tourism. In 2024 alone, over 100 Southeast Asian tourist groups have come to experience the allure of year-round snow and skiing.
