Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam visits Guangzhou

GD Today | Updated:2025-03-24

From March 19 to 21, a delegation led by Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, visited Guangzhou.

On March 19, Zhang Hu, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, met with Nguyen Chi Dung and his delegation. Zhang said that Guangdong, geographically close to and culturally connected with Vietnam, serves as both a participant and a promoter of their traditional friendship and pragmatic cooperation.

In recent years, the exchanges between Guangdong and Vietnam have become closer in fields such as high-level exchanges, coordination mechanisms, and economic and trade cooperation. Guangdong will follow the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties to deepen and solidify the construction of the China-Vietnam community with a shared future. China is willing to work with Vietnam to continuously enhance mutual visits and exchanges at all levels, improve the level of economic and trade cooperation, carry on the traditional friendship, and achieve win-win cooperation at a higher level.

Nguyen Chi Dung expressed his praise for the achievements made in Guangdong's economic and social development. He said that he looks forward to further deepening exchanges and cooperation with Guangdong in areas such as economic and trade, investment, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and scientific and technological innovation, strengthening exchanges among people at all levels, and enhancing the profound friendship between Vietnam and Guangdong.

On March 20, Nguyen Chi Dung and his delegation went to Huanghuagang Memorial Park to pay floral tribute to Vietnamese martyr Pham Hong Thai at his grave and visited the old site of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Youth Association. In August 2024, To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Vietnamese President, also visited this place during his visit to Guangzhou and wrote in the visitor's book, "May the friendship between Vietnam and China be passed down from generation to generation and last forever."

Nguyen Chi Dung and his delegation, accompanied by Sun Zhiyang, Mayor of Guangzhou, also investigated the Guangzhou Metro OCC Headquarters Building, gaining an in-depth understanding of Guangzhou Metro in terms of investment and construction, network operation, and daily services.

Since Guangzhou and Vietnam are closely connected, the exchanges and interactions between the two sides are frequent. Guangzhou has established sister-city relations with Hanoi City, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong Province. Since 2023, several high-level delegations from Hanoi City and Ho Chi Minh City have successively visited Guangzhou, achieving important results in deepening friendly exchanges and officials' training. In April 2024, the Organization Commission of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee signed an agreement on officials' training with the South China University of Technology, stipulating that a training program for officials of Hanoi will be organized in Guangzhou once a year from 2024 to 2028. So far, two such training programs have been held.
