The 16th BRICS Summit was held in Kazan, Russia, from Oct 22 to 24. This significant gathering brought together more than 30 leaders and government delegations from across the globe in the city situated on the banks of the Volga River.

Kazan, a vibrant blend of eastern and western cultures, has emerged as a crucial center for Russia's eastern progress, embracing politics, science, education, culture, and sports.

Throughout the summit, Kazan anticipated welcoming over 20,000 foreign government officials, international and regional organizations, businesses, and media representatives. Russia has allocated 600 million yuan ($83 million) towards urban and environmental enhancements in Kazan.

With a rich history spanning a millennium, Kazan has influenced different historical epochs in Russia. Given its strong cultural and economic connections with China, Kazan stands as a crucial conduit for fostering Sino-Russian collaboration and interaction.

Formally twinned in 2012, Kazan and Guangzhou have upheld a close relationship, engaging in regular exchanges with delegations partaking in a wide array of cultural, sports, and economic initiatives. Kazan has reciprocated by dispatching government delegations, journalists, and young entrepreneurs on multiple visits to Guangzhou.

Positioned as a major port city along the Volga River and a notable hub for industry, science, education, and culture in Russia, Kazan provides a fertile landscape for tangible collaboration between China and Russia. The summit held in Kazan breathes fresh life into Sino-Russian cooperation, while the amicable exchanges between cities such as Guangzhou and Kazan are poised to elevate mutual cooperation between China and Russia to new heights.
