Over the past five years after the release of the Outline of the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the GBA has seen remarkable economic growth, with its economic output rising from 10.8 trillion yuan ($1.5 trillion) in 2018 to over 14 trillion yuan in 2023. Despite covering less than 0.6 percent of China's total land area, the GBA contributes one-ninth of the national economic output, showcasing the region's significant economic impact.

At the "GBA Opportunities" Guangdong-themed media tour briefing held in Guangzhou on June 11, Zhang Hu, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor, emphasized that these achievements fully demonstrate the institutional advantages and vitality of the "one country, two systems" policy.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the development plan for the GBA. Over the past five years, the GBA has emerged as one of China's most open and economically dynamic regions. It has seen accelerated growth in science and technology industries, expansion in both the hard connectivity of infrastructure and the soft connectivity of institutions and rules, as well as deepening integration and collaboration, all showcasing a thriving vitality.

Zhang Hu explained that Guangdong has been taken the construction of the GBA a major task and a top priority for the province. The province has mobilized its full strength to work with Hong Kong and Macao in advancing the GBA construction.
