Exception de Mixmind, a homegrown fashion label known for designs imbued with understated elegance and striking traditional Chinese aesthetics, released its 2024 Spring/Summer collection on Friday in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, during the 2023 China (Guangzhou) International Fashion Industry Conference.
The ceramic ware produced by Ding kiln, one of the "five great kilns" in ancient China which was famous for its white glazed porcelain in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), and liaoling, a type of exquisite damask silk mainly worn by the royals in ancient China, especially the Tang Dynasty (618-907), are the two sources of inspiration for creating the new ready-to-wear collection.
Colors such as white, black, pale yellow and smoke green are featured in the collection to evoke the wearer's poetic imagination of the Orient. A wide range of materials including silk, linen, acetate, jacquard, and denim are cut into sleek and minimalist pieces that strike viewers as soft sculptures, according to the brand.

Held in tandem with the conference was an exhibition titled "Inheritance and Recreation", co-curated by the fashion brand, the World Silk and Silk Road International Research Center of Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, and Tianyi Textile.
Visitors to the show can glimpse the five collections in which the brand vitalized Chinese cultural heritage through fashion in the past 27 years since its establishment.
They can also view the liaoling bath robe dating back to the Tang Dynasty that Chinese textile specialist Zhao Feng recreated based on a relic unearthed from the underground palace of the Famen Temple in Xi'an, North China's Shaanxi province.
