Uğur İbrahim Altay, president of the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and mayor of Konya, Turkey, stated that Chinese cities have made significant contributions to mitigating the environmental impacts of urbanization.
He made the remarks during this year's Guangzhou International Awards for Urban Innovation and the Global Mayors' Forum, which were held in Guangzhou from Dec 7 to 9.
Altay praised the Guangzhou Award, highlighting its role in promoting learning and communication among cities. He said that Guangzhou plays an important part in global governance, especially in environmental protection and urbanization.
Guangzhou is actively advancing the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and international exchanges, demonstrating clear development goals and a strong vision. Additionally, Guangzhou is committed to improving the welfare of women and young people on the international stage.
