Mark Watts, executive director of C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, visited Guangzhou to strengthen cooperation with the city on climate action initiatives and inspect its achievements in green and low-carbon development on Nov 2.
During a meeting with the Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Wang Huanqing, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the development of green shipping corridors, green finance, climate investment, financing, and strategies for sustainable urban cooling.
Watts highly commended Guangzhou's efforts in urban ecological restoration, utilization of green energy, and the construction of low-carbon transportation systems. He praised the city's environmental innovation and practices, particularly noting his visits to the Haizhu National Wetland Park, the Guangzhou Public Transport Group's New Energy Industrial Park, and GAC Aion New Energy Automobile.
Founded in London in 2005, C40 is committed to driving climate action among the world's major cities. The organization facilitates the sharing of technology and experiences to assist cities in achieving low-carbon development.
Since joining C40 in 2015, Guangzhou has engaged in effective exchanges and cooperation with other member cities in various low-carbon fields such as energy-saving environmental protection, solid waste management, transportation planning, and climate change adaptation, making significant contributions to climate action in cities around the globe.
