Guangzhou formalized a Friendship City agreement on Sept 11 with Limassol in Cyprus, paving the way for a new chapter of collaborative engagements between the two cities.
China's ambassador to Cyprus, Liu Yantao, said that both cities had a rich history and culture, making the affiliation a natural and harmonious union.
He voiced expectations that the newly forged bonds would not only deepen the strategic partnership between China and Cyprus but also foster other tangible outcomes in various fields.
The establishment of this Friendship City relationship is said to underscore Guangzhou's growing influence in international dialogues and partnerships. To date, Guangzhou has cultivated friendly ties with 103 cities across 67 countries globally, boosting its presence on the international stage.
Cyprus's economic nucleus and its biggest port, Limassol has a population of 160,000. The city's ravishing landscape makes it a magnet for tourists, but it also boasts a rich reservoir of cultural heritage, and as a result, it hosts a plethora of artistic and festive events annually.
Expectations are that the new development will lead to mutually beneficial growth and prosperity in the cultural, economic, tourism, and other areas.
It's hoped that the alliance will help nurture the friendship between China and Cyprus, fostering future collaborative opportunities and mutual enrichment.
