From Sept 9 to 10, the Guangzhou Chess Institute hosted the 2023 Sino-French "Two Countries, Five Cities" Youth International Chess Competition.

This event is significant in the 35-year friendship between Guangzhou and Lyon, France, as it aims to foster stronger ties and mutual understanding among the younger generations of the two nations.

At the opening ceremony, dignitaries from China and France underscored the pivotal role of this event in deepening bilateral friendships and enhancing mutual understanding among the youth. The competing teams hailed from five cities: Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Macao in China, and Lyon in France.

Following two days of intense competition, the Shenzhen team emerged victorious, clinching the group championship title. Meanwhile, the team from Guangzhou and the team from Macao secured second and third places, respectively.

Looking forward, the organizers anticipate that more cities will join this event, thus turning this friendly competition into an internationally recognized event that facilitates sports exchanges and enhances international friendships.
