Tianhe Liede Street recently held a dragon boat launching ceremony, a century-old dragon boat folk activity, which matches this international block very well as it integrates tradition with modernization.
During the ceremony, young people lift dragon boats, which have been buried in the riverbed, and the residents repair them on the shore. They then paint beautiful patterns on the hulls of the boats in preparation for the dragon boat races.
According to Li Zhifeng, a person in charge of Liede traditional culture (dragon and lion), the ceremony is simple. At around nine o'clock in the morning, residents start to worship the gods and pray for blessings. Then under the command of the captain of the dragon boat team, everyone begins to wash the dragon boat.
This year, a total of 12 dragon boats were launched.
