The 2023 winners of the Berlin Design Awards were recently announced, and the Xinhua Bookstore on Beijing Road in Guangzhou won the Silver Award in the Interior Design - International Showroom or Flagship category.

The bookstore, established on Nov 7, 1949, is located at No 276 Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, the commercial center of Guangzhou. It was the first State-owned bookstore to open in Guangzhou after the city's liberation.

The bookstore has three floors and contains over 40,000 books, making it a complex store with Lingnan characteristics. The overall layout of the bookstore is inspired by the front and back courtyards of a traditional Xiguan house, with a three-entry courtyard layout. The design aims to give readers a taste of Lingnan, while also experiencing a history of more than 1,000 years.
