Yan Yuqing, the Chinese consul-general in Recife, Brazil, recently said in an interview that the cooperation between Recife and Guangzhou will continue to promote the high-quality development of Guangdong province.
There are more than 300,000 Chinese citizens living in Brazil, of which the majority are Cantonese. The city of Recife is home to a large number of overseas Chinese from Guangdong, so it was natural that the Guangdong hometown association was formed there. Since its inception, this association has done a lot of work to promote China-Brazil's friendship.
With the increasing number of overseas Chinese from Guangdong, Cantonese culture has also gained popularity in Brazil among the locals.
Yan noted that more and more Brazilians prefer Cantonese morning tea, and Cantonese cuisine, and enjoy watching Cantonese cultural performances. In Recife, there are many Cantonese who are engaged in Cantonese catering services to meet the needs of the local population.
This year marks the 16th anniversary of friendship between Guangzhou and Recife, and the two cities will continue to jointly build green and culturally rich cities.
