Recife city in Brazil held a Chinese New Year celebration on Jan 19. The event showcased Guangzhou city to the citizens of Recife through a vibrant light show.

This was the first time that Chinese New Year has been celebrated in Recife. The city declared it an official holiday in October 2022. 

This year also marks the 16th anniversary of the friendship between Guangzhou and Recife. Since the friendship was established, the two cities have been engaged in friendly exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, culture, education, and other areas.
