Nanfang Plus, Southern Metropolis Daily, Xinhua News, HiZhongshan | Updated:2023-01-16

Tickets for the high-speed rail connecting the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the mainland has been available for sale as the services are set to resume on Sunday.

A total of 10,000 tickets for short-distance travel will be available each day at the initial stage of service resumption, said Lam Sai-hung, secretary for transport and logistics of the HKSAR government, adding that the number of tickets will be increased after the authorities review passenger demand and operation of the train station.

Passengers can purchase tickets online through train ticket booking platform "12306", via travel agencies, or in person at the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. They will not be required to register for a border-crossing quota in advance if they have bought a ticket.

After nearly three years of service suspension, the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will restart operation on Jan. 15, the HKSAR government said Wednesday.

At the initial stage, services between the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Futian, Shenzhenbei and Guangzhou South Railway Station will be resumed, while services to and from Guangzhou East Railway Station will be newly introduced, an HKSAR government spokesperson said.

At the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, people lined up early on Thursday to get a ticket to the mainland. For many, it would be the first trip in three years to reunite with their family members, and it would be a perfect timing as the Chinese Lunar New Year falls on Jan. 22 this year.

At the initial stage of operation, it takes around an hour and half for passengers to travel from the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to the newly added Guangzhou East Railway station by the high-speed trains.

Ferry service between Nansha Passenger Port and China HK Ferry Terminal, and between Zhongshan Port and Hong Kong International Airport(HKIA)/downtown Hong Kong (China Ferry Terminal), will resume today on January 13.

Passengers who have got ship tickets and necessary certificates can go through the customs without appointments because there is no daily limit to the number of water route passengers. The ticket presale has started. A negative PCR test result within 48 hours is required.

The whole journey from Nansha Passenger Port to China HK Ferry Terminal takes about 90 minutes.

It takes about 75 minutes to travel by ferry from Zhongshan Port to downtown Hong Kong(China Ferry Terminal), and about 70 minutes to Hong Kong International Airport.

Passengers who are going to take a flight of an airline that allows its passengers to check in in advance at Zhongshan Port can go through the check-in procedure, obtain his or her boarding pass and check his or her luggage at the check-in counter of the port before boarding a liner. The whole journey from Zhongshan Port to SkyPier of HKIA takes about 70 minutes. The passenger does not need to go through any entry and exit formalities after he or she arrives in Hong Kong. The passenger can directly go through the luggage safety inspection by showing his or her boarding pass at the airport. Passengers can also be refunded for the departure tax (HKD120) they prepay during flight ticket purchase at the airport.

Passengers who fly to HKIA from foreign countries can go back to Chinese mainland by ferry on the same day upon their arrival in Hong Kong whatever airline service they use.
