Guangzhou was invited to participate in an event commemorating World Children's Day in China, with Guangzhou Tower, a landmark building in this southern metropolis, being illuminated with blue lights symbolizing its "children-friendly" reputation.
Guangzhou is also broadcasting a public service advertisement for this red-letter day at Guangzhou International Media Harbour, encouraging people from all walks of life to pay more attention to children's healthy development, safeguard their basic rights, and show the world Guangzhou's commitment to establishing itself as a children-friendly city.
World Children's Day is a global festival that aims to raise awareness of the importance of listening to children's needs and caring for their rights.
To commemorate the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989, World Children's Day takes place on Nov 20 each year.
