Guangzhou and Busan, South Korea, held an online food culture exchange and book-giving activity on Oct 18.

At the event, Zhang Ying, a leader of the culture, radio, film, television, and tourism bureau of Guangzhou municipality, explained the origin of Guangzhou's titles of "International Capital of Gastronomy" and promoted Guangzhou cuisine.

The two cities agreed to give each other 300 books on the cuisines of their respective cities, some of which will be displayed in libraries and some of which will be donated to young students.

Liu Liu, deputy director of the foreign affairs office of the Guangzhou municipal government, attended the meeting and said that this year is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea and is the "China-South Korea Cultural Exchange Year" as designated by the two governments. Guangzhou and Busan hope to deepen mutual understanding among youth in the two cities and further deepen exchanges and cooperation through food and reading.

Since Guangzhou and Busan formed a cooperative relationship in November 2019, the two sides have promoted exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, sports, education, and tourism.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the two cities have exchanged anti-epidemic supplies, and the mayors of the two cities have exchanged condolence letters to support each other's fight against the virus, which have greatly enhanced the friendship between the governments and people of the two cities.
