The new site of the Guangdong Yueju Opera Theater is located in Zhujiang New Town and is a major cultural facilities construction project in Guangzhou.

It has a total construction area of about 40,000 square meters, with three floors underground and 16 floors above ground, including a 1,200-seat large theater, a 500-seat small theater, three 60-seat small cinemas, cultural activity centers, and other supporting facilities.

The main structure of the theatre successfully passed acceptance in October 2021 and was completed in August 2022.

The new site of this theatre aims to become the cultural center of Cantonese Opera in the world, further promoting Cantonese Opera and the high-quality development of Guangzhou culture.

Combining traditional and modern elements, the four-story main hall is 20 meters high.

The interior design of the theater lobby uses Cantonese Opera elements with red, black, and white as the main colors.

The theater is characterized by its large span, open structure, and complex shape. The maximum beam height in the theatre is higher than that of an ordinary residential building, with 1,250 tons of steel used.

Guided by "cultural architecture" principles and the use of emerging technologies, the builders have overcome a number of technical difficulties, achieving a series of scientific and technological achievements to complete the theater’s construction.

They realized the design and construction of multifunctional theaters, providing the advanced experience for the construction of domestic and foreign downtown movie theaters.

By analyzing the wind and thermal environment of the site, the utilization rate of rainwater was improved by the construction team, while energy-saving goals, such as noise reduction and electricity saving, were achieved, meeting the one-star standard of green building in China.

The construction team imported the completed theater BIM model directly into the acoustic simulation software for professional analysis, reducing the reverberation time T60 of the empty space from 1.41 seconds to 1.21 seconds, which met the national standards to the greatest extent.

Through three-dimensional sound line analysis, builders used multiple curved ceilings, wall streamlines modeling, and hyperbolic river blocking to enhance the fullness of the sound, and the sense of space, as well as to complement the delicate stage decoration, providing attendees with the best stage and audio-visual effects.

The establishment of the theater will bolster the cultural industries of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
