The 13th Asian-Pacific City Summit opened online and on-site in Fukuoka, Japan on July 27, focusing on pressing issues such as urban governance and economic recovery in the post-pandemic era.
Guo Yonghang, mayor of Guangzhou, attended the online summit and delivered a video speech, noting that Guangzhou and Fukuoka have formed extensive cooperation and a deep friendship since the two cities established Friendship City ties in 1979.
As China's national central city and a core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou has managed to coordinate COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control measures with economic and social development.
Guangzhou is willing to cooperate with other member cities to overcome the upcoming challenges and move towards a brighter future, Guo added.
The Asian-Pacific City Summit was initiated and firstly held by Fukuoka in 1994. Member cities take turns holding the biennial mayor-level summit, and Guangzhou was invited to host the second summit in 1996.
