Guangzhou reported 38 positive cases from 14:00 on April 10 to 18:00 on April 11. An investigation indicated that they are linked to previous cases, according to a press conference held on 8 p.m. on April 11.
There were 27 Confirmed and 11 Asymptomatic Cases.
Baiyun reported 3 cluster infection cases from Jiangxia Lighting and Construction Material City (2 related cases, with one infection through family transmission and the other through close contact), 11 infections from Dilu Pub, and 5 from the Xiaozhu Health Club.
Haizhu reported 4 cases of cluster infection from Yangyang Garment Co., Ltd.
Thirteen cases were detected among key groups, close contacts, and visitors to key exposure sites in Baiyun, Huadu, Zengcheng.
All 38 patients are now receiving treatment at Guangzhou No. 8 People's Hospital and are in stable condition. Most local infections have been found in control areas or among key groups. Epidemiological investigations show that they are related to earlier cases.
Control, Testing, and Disinfection
Differentiated control measures have been put in place in Baiyun, Yuexiu, Huadu, Zengcheng, and Haizhu.
Since April 8, Guangzhou has reported 61 new COVID-19 cases, including 45 in Baiyun, 7 in Haizhu, 4 in Yuexiu, 2 in Panyu, and 1 each in Zengcheng, Tianhe, and Huadu. Areas reporting 3 or more cases are Tangjing Street, Xinshi Street, Renhe Town, Baiyunhu Street, Songzhou Street, Jiahe Street, and Huangshi Street in Baiyun, as well as Nanzhou Street in Haizhu. Among these 61 patients, 17 are asymptomatic, 37 have mild symptoms, and 7 are general cases.
Sufficient Medical Support
We will take every effort to ensure proper medical services are available in the control areas, officials said at the press conference. According to the emergency plan, the resources of five Grade-III hospitals and five community clinics will be managed in a unified manner, and 3,622 hospital beds will be provided to satisfy the medical needs of residents in these control areas. Guangzhou No. People's Hospital has sent 17 top-notch medical workers skilled in general surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics & gynecology to support the Baiyun Women and Children's Hospital and Health Institute.
As of noon April 11, Baiyun has solved 218 pieces of medical needs, transferred 46 patients for treatment, and arranged 15 patients for hospitalization in the control areas. Meanwhile, more guidance has been provided to residents in seeking medical attention.
Concerted Efforts Needed to Fight COVID-19
Everyone shall be responsible for their own health. Guangzhou is now at a critical point in the fight against COVID-19. We should all unite and strive to win this fight, said Chen Bin, deputy director of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission.
1. Get tested in a timely and orderly manner.
Given the current pandemic situation, a new round of testing may be needed in certain areas. The goal of multiple tests in a short period is to detect all infections as soon as possible. We have urged all residents to stay updated with local arrangements, and take tests in a safe and orderly fashion. More tests should be conducted in special facilities, such as nursing homes and welfare houses, as well as among key groups, including grade 9 students and teachers, wholesale market vendors, workers in freight and delivery industries, medical workers, and volunteers.
2. See a doctor if you feel unwell.
During investigations, we found that some patients had symptoms after exposure, but they did not visit a hospital, therefore they spread the virus to their families and friends. This has caused extra efforts and costs in epidemic control.
If you experience a fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, a reduced sense of smell or taste, or any other COVID-19 symptom, please do not go to work or school, nor take medicine without professional medical consultation. It is recommended that you immediately go to the nearest fever clinic for a COVID-19 screening.
3. Protect yourself.
Take protective measures on a daily basis. Workers in wholesale markets, logistics and delivery industries, and service facilities deal with a wide range of people with various backgrounds every day. Hence, they work with a higher exposure risk to COVID-19. These professionals must take extra protective measures during their work activities and pay close attention to their daily health conditions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These precautions will not only better protect themselves but also keep others safe. Necessary safety protocols, such as temperature scans and code checking, shall be put in place at the entrances of public venues.
