A shipment of food, including vegetables and fresh eggs, began making its way on Monday to Hong Kong from Guangzhou, Guangdong province, to help the special administrative region. Hong Kong has been hit hard by COVID-19.

Assisted by customs officers in Guangzhou's Conghua district, 8,265 kilograms of vegetables donated by a local company, were quickly cleared and sent on their way.

"Local customs simplified clearance procedures, ensuring a fast journey to Hong Kong," said Lin Yuhao, a manager at the company, Guangdong Cypress Jade Agricultural Group Co.

The company, which is a "vegetable basket" project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, has a number of farms for Hong Kong in Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces and in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

Customs officers in Conghua, a major agricultural base in Guangzhou, have opened a green channel for the clearance of food to Hong Kong to fully ensure a stable supply since the SAR reported its recent round of COVID-19.

On Tuesday, 7,350 kilograms of fresh eggs provided by another local company, were shipped to Hong Kong by water from the Lianhuashan cargo port in Guangzhou's Panyu district. It was the first time an enterprise had exported fresh eggs, customs officials said, adding that timely shipment is crucial.

"We have also strictly implemented disease monitoring of laying hens on farms. We guide enterprises in sewage treatment and the maintenance of cleaning and disinfection facilities," said Ou Jiepeng, a Conghua customs official.
