While carrying out testing on those at high risk of exposure to imported COVID-19 cases, Guangzhou reported one patient had been infected by virus carriers traveling from abroad.
The individual lives at 65 Tiansheng village, Huale Street (华乐街天胜村65号), in the same building where the first imported case was reported on Dec 13.
The original infected individual was transferred under centralized quarantine on Dec 13. Nucleic acid test results were all negative on Dec 13, 14, and 15, but in the early morning of Dec 16, the nucleic acid test result came back positive, which was confirmed after another test by the Guangzhou CDC. Further examination confirmed the individual as a COVID-19 case.
Prior to the onset of this case, centralized quarantine control was implemented, and the environmental sampling and testing results of the involved places were all negative. Experts assessed that the risk of community transmission to be low.
