Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor announced on Tuesday she will visit Guangzhou and Shenzhen in Guangdong province this week, attending major trade fairs and explaining her Policy Address to Shenzhen officials.

On Thursday, Lam will attend the opening ceremony of the 130th session of the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, and the Pearl River International Trade Forum at the invitation of the Ministry of Commerce. She will depart Hong Kong for Guangzhou on Wednesday.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will deliver the keynote speech at the Thursday ceremony, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian has announced.

This year's Canton Fair will run from Oct 15 to 19. This international trade event in China, the country's largest and now held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou, was initiated in 1957. It is co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the People's Government of Guangdong.

On the same day, Lam will visit Shenzhen to brief the city government on the Policy Address, in particular the proposals on strengthening cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

In her latest Policy Address released on Wednesday, the Hong Kong government brought forward the concept of "Twin Cities, Three Circles", which is a result of close collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. The concept, which involves the maturely developed metropolitan core in Shenzhen at the border of Hong Kong and Hong Kong's Northern Metropolis, aims to further deepen ties between the two cities in economy, infrastructure, innovation tech, people's livelihoods and environmental protection.
