Guangdong province's Guangzhou and Minsk, Belarus signed a memorandum online to strengthen communication and cooperation on Sept 28, making Minsk a new friendly city of Guangzhou.

The two cities will launch regional communication and cooperation projects and enhance exchanges in areas spanning science, technology, economics, trade and culture.

Belarusian Ambassador to China Yuri Senko said that the signing of the memorandum between Guangzhou and Minsk has marked a step forward in China-Belarus cooperation.

Senko said that the two cities have strategic advantages in carrying out comprehensive cooperation as Minsk is the capital of Belarus and Guangzhou is located in the core area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Guangdong has been an important business destination for Belarusian products.

Guangzhou University and Belarusian State University of Physical Culture also signed a memorandum of cooperation to carry out cooperation in areas spanning sports management, the integration of culture, sports and tourism, joint talent cultivation as well as the joint establishment of scientific research platforms.

Two districts in Guangzhou, namely Yuexiu and Haizhu have established friendly district relationships with two districts in Minsk and Nansha district is now working on a new relationship with a district in Minsk.
