The recent COVID-19 outbreak has already rapidly spread to 35 cities and 15 provinces in China. It now poses a grave challenge to our domestic epidemic control efforts.

To protect yourself and others, the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission hereby reminds you of the following precautions:

1. Don't leave Guangdong Province unless necessary. Those who travel outside should avoid crowds and gatherings.

2. All inbound travelers from other parts of China must take a PCR test.

3. Travelers from high-risk or medium-risk areas should report to their communities immediately.

4. If you experience a fever, dry cough, fatigue, etc., please, immediately go to the nearest fever clinic with a mask that securely covers your nose and mouth. Call 120 for medical help if you come from a high-risk or medium-risk area and have any of the aforementioned symptoms.

5. Stay safe and practice good hygiene. Always wear a mask and wash your hands frequently. Keep at a safe social distance and avoid unnecessary gatherings and outings.

6. Get vaccinated.

Safety Precautions for Hospital Visitors

1. Make an appointment before visiting a level-2 or above medical institution. Personal protective measures should be taken before entering any medical facility.

Please, cooperate with the three checks and one enquiry practice (i.e. health code checks, body temperature checks, and mask usage; and have a detailed enquiry completed if you are a patient with fever, cough, or other respiratory symptoms or with epidemiological history). During this epidemic outbreak, visitors are also required to show their digital travel records to medical staff. Those who experience COVID-19 symptoms, such as a fever and cough and have traveled from middle-risk and high-risk areas, will be directed to a fever clinic.

2. All patients and their attendants must provide a negative PCR test result within the previous 72 hours to apply for hospital admission. Please, take a PCR test in advance.

3. Avoid unnecessary visits. Visit your sick friend or family member through video or calls wherever possible, so as to reduce the risk of crowding in hospitals.

4. Avoid unnecessary attendance. If an attendant is needed, please, designate one and only person for this purpose; no replacement will be allowed.

5. When visiting a hospital, please, wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, and practice social distancing. If you have a fever, please, go to a fever clinic under the hospital's direction.

Medical Treatment for Fever Patients

1. If a medical institution (such as a primary-level clinic) that is not able to receive fever patients encounters any patient that is present with a fever and/or other COVID-19 symptoms and has a suspicious epidemiological history, the institution shall immediately report this information to a collaborated fever clinic or the district transfer task force. A negative pressure ambulance shall be arranged to transfer the patient in a close-loop manner to the fever clinic.

2. Any suspected patient found in the pre-examination triage or emergency department shall be immediately directed to a fever clinic by a designated staff member for epidemic screening.

3. Fever clinic screening requirements. Patients are not allowed to leave the hospital until they receive a negative PCR test result. Only those who test negative may leave the fever clinic.

For patients who have a suspicious epidemiological history with COVID-19 symptoms, even if their PCR test result is negative, must remain in the hospiatl for further observation and receive IgM antibody tests, an imageological examination, and routine blood tests.

For a patient with COVID-19 symptoms, especially one with an abnormal chest CT result, the PCR test should be done in a double-sampling and double-tube manner.
