The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) announced on July 8 to loosen border control with the neighboring Guangdong province in the mainland, given the improving COVID-19 epidemic situation in Guangdong.
Starting 0:00 a.m. on July 10, travelers crossing the border between Macao and Guangdong will be required to present negative nucleic acid test reports effective within seven days instead of the current 48 hours, according to the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center of Macao.
Previously, Macao canceled the mandatory 14-day centralized medical observation and quarantine required of individuals who had been to Dashi Street, Panyu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province within 14 days prior to entry, starting 6 p.m., July 7.
The move marked Macao’s quarantine measures for individuals who have been to Guangdong Province within 14 days before entry came to an end.
On June 7, Macao announced to tighten border control with Guangdong. Prior to that, travelers were required to present negative nucleic acid test reports effective within seven days.
As of July 8, Macao has reported no locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases for 466 consecutive days, the center said.
