In these early summer days, as we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and Guangzhou Municipal People's Government would like to wish you a memorable and ceremonious Dragon Boat Festival!

On May 21, a local COVID-19 case was detected in Guangzhou. The Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government have acted with firm resolve to implement the principles of President Xi Jinping's important remarks and instructions. We have fully implemented the working requirements of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, major decisions and arrangements of the State Council, Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council Guangdong Working Group, Provincial Party Committee, and Provincial Government. We have mobilized resources across the city and made an comprehensive effort by adopting the firmest, most decisive, and strictest prevention and control measures to resolutely curb the spread of COVID-19. 

The COVID-19 outbreak itself is a call to action, while the prevention and control of COVID-19 is an inherent responsibility. Thousands of health workers, Party members, Party officials, public security officers, community workers, journalists, and volunteers have worked day and night to overcome one challenge after another in the race against this virus and fight against this disease. They have all sacrificed personal family time in exchange for the greater good of their community. They have devoted themselves to the battle against COVID-19 with fearlessness, a sense of responsibility, and a firm belief in victory. Their commitment has created countless, beautiful, and touching stories. These accounts have placed the bright red Party flag in the most prominent position on the battlefront of the fight against COVID-19.

People are the true source of our power. It is extremely inspirational to see that all residents have actively responded to our calls. You have made selfless contributions to the fight against COVID-19 by following the requirements of our notifications, refraining from travelling, avoiding gatherings, and having group meals. During the universal PCR testing process, millions of Guangzhou residents have queued in line despite heavy rains and strong heat. The discipline and participation of Guangzhou residents have paved the way for our efforts to identify the accurate number of infections and to cut off the transmission. 

It is particularly worth mentioning that in the cordoned off areas and control areas, residents have overcome many difficulties and inconveniences and voluntarily cooperated with the requirements of the health administration. This has showcased their consideration for the overall situation, dedication to contribute, and their willingness to make sacrifices. We were only able to be united as one and to work towards the unified goal of controlling COVID-19 thanks to the solidarity, support, and assistance from millions of residents.

After the storm, the sun will shine again. Right now, we are at a critical stage in our fight against COVID-19. We are still seeing new cases, and we must remain vigilant and cautious. 

To thoroughly cut off the transmission, relevant prevention and control measures will be imposed for an extended period of time. These measures are likely to cause many inconveniences to your daily life, shopping and leisure, as well as your work and study. However, these temporary control measures have been imposed to ensure, not only your safety and health, but that of society as well. One tiny mistake may result in big trouble. We must continue to take extra precautions and stringent control measures, We must remain perseverant in order to achieve the silver lining. 

We genuinely hope all residents will continue to cooperate with the requirements of COVID-19 prevention and control and take actions on a personal and household level. By following order, paying attention to personal hygiene, and adhering to science, law, and etiquette while carrying forward the spirit to win the battle against COVID-19, we will be able to build a solid and invincible people's line of defense.

Guangzhou is a city deeply rooted in the traditions of revolution. The people of Guangzhou are upholding the city's heroic spirit and striving to create new sagas in this new era. 

We firmly believe that with the helmsmanship of President Xi Jinping, firm leadership of the Central Party Committee and the State Council, sophisticated arrangements of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, and concerted efforts of millions of residents, we will definitely win this tough battle against COVID-19 and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China with practical actions.
