On April 12, 2021, Guangzhou launched its vaccination program for Hong Kong and Macao compatriots as well as foreign citizens residing in the Chinese mainland. Since then, residents in certain age groups have been eligible to receive a domestically-produced COVID-19 vaccine!
01 COVID-19 vaccination program for Hong Kong and Macao compatriots residing in Guangzhou
Free of charge
According to current national policies and regulations, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots living in Guangdong province aged between 18 years old and 59 years old, and those aged over 60 who need to be vaccinated for specific reasons (provided that they are in good health) can get the COVID-19 vaccine free of charge by presenting a Residence Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents issued by the Chinese mainland public security authority, or a Chinese Mainland Medical Insurance Payment Record. They must agree to the principle that they're "informed and voluntary".
Hong Kong and Macao compatriots who teach or study at different types of schools inside Guangdong province shall take part in the free COVID-19 vaccination program organized by their school.
At your own expense
Hong Kong and Macao compatriots residing in the Chinese mainland who do not fit the above descriptions can get the COVID-19 vaccine at their own expense. The cost is 100 yuan ($15)/dose.
Note:
Vaccination safeguard policies and measures for Hong Kong and Macao compatriots are the same as those for Guangzhou residents; everyone will be treated equally.
02 COVID-19 vaccination program for foreign citizens residing in Guangzhou
Free of charge
Foreign citizens who are enrolled in the Guangdong provincial social security medical insurance program can enjoy the same treatment as Chinese citizens by presenting a valid Medical Insurance Payment Record on site.
At your own expense
Foreign citizens who are not enrolled in the Guangdong provincial social security medical insurance program can get the COVID-19 vaccine at their own expense. The cost is 100 yuan/dose.
Note:
Vaccination safeguard policies and measures for Hong Kong, Macao compatriots and foreign citizens are the same as those for Guangzhou residents; everyone will be treated equally.
03 How to book your COVID-19 vaccine?
Hong Kong and Macao compatriots have two ways of booking:
Hong Kong and Macao compatriots who are willing to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Guangzhou can make a booking via the "Yuejiantong" WeChat service platform (whether they are paying for themselves or can get the vaccine free of charge).
Alternatively, they can book online through the "Guangzhou Jiankangtong" WeChat service platform (if they are eligible for free vaccination).
Foreign citizens in Guangzhou can only make the booking via the "Yuejiantong" WeChat service platform.
The COVID-19 vaccine consists of two doses.
Guangzhou uses domestically-produced inactivated COVID-19 vaccine which requires two shots.
Important notice:
Once the booking is successful, you need to follow the relevant notifications and instructions and bring the required credentials to the designated vaccination station in order to get the shot.
Before taking your shot, you should work with the staff at the vaccination station to complete the required procedure. You should proactively inform them about your health conditions and respond to medical staff's questions to ensure an informed, voluntary vaccination.
After taking your shot, you need to stay at the vaccination station for 30 minutes for the purpose of medical observation. You should pay close attention to your health status over the following 14 days. You should seek professional medical advice if you feel unwell.
You should follow local COVID-19 prevention and control measures and ensure personal hygiene as you get vaccinated.
04 Where to book your COVID-19 vaccine?
Hong Kong and Macao compatriots and foreign citizens can get the vaccine at 11 COVID-19 vaccination stations designated by district.
All foreign citizens, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots in Guangzhou who are paying for the COVID-19 vaccine themselves shall go to the 11 district designated COVID-19 vaccination stations.
If you are eligible to get vaccinated free of charge, you can go to any vaccination station across Guangzhou.
