Wen Guohui, mayor of Guangzhou, met up with Dario Mihelin, the Croatian ambassador to China, in Guangzhou on April 2.

Wen said that Croatia, an important stop on the ancient Silk Road, enjoys a profound history of friendly communication with China. The prospect for cooperation between Guangzhou and Croatia is broad as Guangzhou is not only a key city in China and a core part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, but is also an international commerce and trade center and a comprehensive transportation hub.

Wen expressed his hope that Guangzhou and Croatia can deepen cooperation in areas such as investment, commerce and tourism, and said that the city is willing to enhance communication with Croatian cities to share experience in sectors such as urban management and COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control.

Mihelin said that he hopes Croatia can strengthen cooperation and exchanges with Guangzhou at different levels such as between local governments, institutions and non-governmental organizations.

In addition, potential plans such as setting up institutes in Guangzhou, launching direct flights between the two places and establishing friendly relations between Guangzhou and Croatian cities were discussed during the meeting.
